MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
- We didn't really discuss penalties for anyone who builds an unfair car, but now would be a good time to since we've had our first offender (sorry, K-Roll :|). What I'll do is subtract points so that the offender receives the same number of points that he would've received if he finished in the middle of the pack. Reasoning behind this is that it obviously loses them points, but not enough to discourage them from racing with us altogether. You'll notice that K-Roll's penalty dropped him from 3rd to 8th so it's still pretty severe, yet those four points can easily be made up over the course of the season. Like I said, not trying to make anyone ragequit the series, just getting them to be fair to their fellow competitors.
- Weirdly, we also had a lot of connection issues this race, so I'm really sorry for anyone who couldn't get into the lobby. If you guys are new to the series, know this doesn't happen a lot and hopefully this'll be an isolated incident. I'm switching to 200MB/s Internet sometime in the next month (fuck yeah, fiber) which should minimize any other problems we have as well.
- There was unfortunately a very contentious incident involving two racers this week. As I mentioned in both this series and the Trans-Am posts, shit like this is just inevitable so I don't want anyone raging or holding grudges against anyone. For what it's worth, I was right behind the crash and it looked like one person didn't leave enough room to allow both racers through the corner at the same time, and the other was a bit too ambitious and shouldn't have tried to pass there anyways. I'm not putting the blame on anyone and neither should you guys, it's a racing incident and those do tend to happen in races. Now's as good a time as ever to remind you all of racing etiquette: avoid contact at all costs, always leave just enough room, and most importantly, this whole series is just for fun so don't take it too seriously.
- Finally, there was a bit of confusion as far as BoP adjustments go so let me clarify a few things:
1) build your car to B450 using the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Full race whatever: tires, weight reduction, aero, etc. etc.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2) If you need to drop PI points, begin with tires . The fastest drivers in our races are the fastest through the corners, so by reducing grip you cancel out your advantage but leave your power figures untouched so you can keep up with the rest of the field on the straights. I've edited the main series post to reflect this philosophy.
CURRENT ORLOVE TROPHY STANDINGS:
Kampfmesser somehow managed to roll his BMW at Turn 7 so he is now in the running for the illustrious Orlove Trophy.
Tohru (Tohru Rokuno) - 2
AutoFixation (Parlock3) - 1
Kampfmesser - 1
And now, a small photo-dump courtesy of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a few more are on his post.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
UPCOMING RACES:
1/17: A550 at Laguna Seca
1/24: B450 at TBD

Yeah, that was weird man, like I said we normally don't have problems with that. I'll be on Friday night with a practice session so we could sort it out then. Also helps that I'm using a different ISP at my college apartment so maybe it was just my family's house that was causing all that.

I'm on a library computer now because my laptop decided to delete my Windows profile (containing all my passwords and saved settings), which meant I had to take it to a computer place to get it restored. And yeah, Saturday the 17th.

Getting on to do that right now, my computer borked itself a few days ago (got it back literally 10 minutes ago) and I didn't have my Kinja password saved anywhere else so that's why I didn't post it on Monday like usual. I think I'll set this lap time a bit faster than the B450 just so we don't have to dial our cars back so much but I'll have the time up tomorrow for sure.

Actually, do me a favor and run a few laps at A550 and let me know what times you're turning in. I was in the 1:35 range at A550 and 1:39 at 519 (on sport compound and mid-tier tire widths) but I'd like to see what you're running since you're the fastest guy in the lobby. I'm trying to make it fair for the slower guys but at the same time I don't want to make the faster dudes miserable with a huge PI handicap.

1:35.675 (unclean) For my fastest lap, but the vast majority of them were around 1:36.200-400. I only got one other in the 1:35 range.
I do not like Laguna Seca.
Also, have you had a chance to upload that replay yet?

Right on. And no, I forgot to do it before I left for school and I'm stuck on an Arcade 360 that doesn't let you watch or upload replays. Really sorry about that, I know you've been asking for like two weeks, it keeps slipping my mind. I might be going back home this weekend so I could upload it then, I'll let you know.

Hey man, just curious what you think of our BoP adjustment system. Like, are the target times I'm setting too slow? Because I can always set them a bit faster so that driving the car doesn't completely suck for the faster people since we have to take off so many upgrades. I'm ok with it, just wanted to make sure you guys are too.

I like the idea of handicapping going both ways with buffs and nerfs. I don't really have a problem with the times, but more with the idea of balancing by a time. It gets a little too subjective, it's hard to factor traffic into the time, not to mention what happens at race time when one gets hyper-focused while driving the track over and over and winds up carving a lot our of their normal time and shoots way over the proposed limit. There's also the risk of the cars being far too "samey". The busier traffic is definitely more interesting, but right now my feeling is a little more towards frustrated than fun. (If I have to spend a third entirety of a race staring at the ass-end of a certain Chevelle, I'm killing myself.)
I dunno, maybe you could try giving slightly faster times a shot. The downside of this is that there are some racers who are already approaching the limit of their cars without breaking the no aspiration/engine change. Maybe things will just clear up once we're out of the "suck" tracks. The last time I was in a series where BoP was involved, it just went one way instead of both, and was readjusted for the next race after the results of the previous race. Not a bad idea, but it just ended up being too punitive on the winners and left them with neutered cars (Also, that guy's series weren't really all that fun because they involved TOO much realism...). Maybe that could be applied better to lower level cars both ways because there's more control over part choice (I mean, there's not a lot you can do to an R3.).
Also, how do you make posts to the Oppo page? I haven't started a thread since the early days of Kinja, before having a linked profile was required (i.e. a long ass time ago), and it seems like every time I try to write something it's directed to my "blog". I want to make a post about the current proposal of the Le Mans roadster rules and info.
Also, I need two spaces vacated in the club garage. I redid tuning on the cars and want to add the two C1 'vettes for trial.

but right now my feeling is a little more towards frustrated than fun
That's exactly what I don't want to have going on and exactly what I'm worried actually is happening. Racing's been crazy close in both series but at the expense of the driving experience for the faster guys having to take off PI points. I mean, I personally don't mind and from what I've heard no one's had a real problem with the ways these series are run but I'm sure some things are being left unsaid, which is why I asked. We can talk about this more in next week's race lobby I guess, I really do want to know what people think about this.
Problem is that, from my perspective at least, due to the skill disparity this is about as good as it's going to get as far as parity among the cars while still being fair to field as a whole. Like, we can set the target times faster so the quicker dudes don't have to dial it back so much, but as you mentioned some people can't really go much faster and could get left behind. I'm just trying to avoid what happened in the GT car series where dudes showed up for only one race and never came back because they got their doors blown off, this series is supposed to be fun for everyone, not just the same four people every week.
I don't really know any other way to balance these cars other than by lap time but I'm open to suggestions. That being said, the BoP adjustments are working as designed: finishing order has been much more unpredictable and varied across both series and races as closer than ever, two things that were sorely lacking in the GT races. I think it's just seems more lame for the faster dudes because we're having to swallow our pride and accept that we won't finish on the podium every week like last series. In a way I kind of like that, it makes for interesting racing, but I can totally understand how frustrating it can be.
That being said something's gotta give man, like I said in the main series post you shouldn't go into these races expecting to win, you should go in expecting to have fun just racing with other people, even if it's not for P1. I always felt bad for dudes like Cherry Man and Kampfmesser who showed up for every race they could and always finished in the back of the pack, maybe now it's time to give them a taste of what winning is like. Plus I think you've just had a shitty run of things to start out the season; keep in mind both tracks we've been to are super-narrow so it's hard to pass, and that your Falcon just doesn't have the straight-line speed of Kampf's Chevelle so passing that son of a bitch has been a nightmare. There's 10 race left in the series so a lot can happen still.
Like I said we can talk about this more in the race lobbies so we can get a better feel for what the group as a whole wants to do. I like where this series is right now but I did ask you your opinion because I'm completely open to changing things around if need be.
And to post to Oppo proper you need to ask one of the mods for authorship, reply to a club opening post and they should take care of the rest.

Got it. Uploaded the two 'Vettes. I posted on that thread you linked, but I haven't gotten a reply yet. Still can't post directly to Oppo.

Yeah, like I said, "suck tracks". Le Mans isn't going to do me any favors since it's more speed-favoring, but at least it's wider. I never picked the Falcon for top speed, I picked it because it handles damn well for its size/for a muscle car in general, and can beat people in the corners. Sadly, that bites me in the ass on narrower tracks.
Also, I picked it because I have a thing for the Falcon that never was (in the US, at least).
(why is this STILL not in Forza?)
